Home Studio Vs High End Studio

What’s The Difference?

With the sudden rise of home studios and hit songs made in them, the question remains.... can I really get the same quality as a high end studio?

The answer is yes, and no.

There‘s many different factors into what separates the home vs the high end:

  • The Room

- A well made room that‘s acoustically treated and has little to no room reverb is ideal for recording. The next time you want to hear how much reverb your room has, just clap and listen.

  • The Equipment

- A high end microphone going into a high end preamp can’t be matched. There’s a reason that even the biggest artists still visit high end studios today. From the recording gear, the speakers, the software, and even the engineer using it, all these things can take your song to the next level, which brings me to my next point.

  • The Engineer

- The engineer can either make or break a song. Most high end studios come equipped with great engineers that can help make your song be the best it can be through years upon years of experience.

What Should I Do?

Everyone’s situation requires different needs to be met.

I’d suggest people who are just starting out and wanting to learn their voice to get themselves a small home studio setup. You could get together a whole studio setup with a microphone, interface, speakers, headphones, and a laptop for around $500-$1000.

Technology has come so far that you can even send the vocals you record at home to a professional engineer, and have them ran through professional gear as if you recorded right there at the studio!

For people who want to take their music more seriously and be able to make money off it, I’d suggest investing in your sound and visiting at least a studio that meets the qualifications of a high end studio.

This way, you can make sure your song can compete with other songs playing on the radio, and help separate your sound from the rest.
